It was this kind of sitcom material that inspired LOVE, AMERICAN STYLE in a few years. This was perfectly tailored for good guy Robbie, who always meant well, much like Steve, but a victim of circumstances.
Robbie is in the park one fine day and happens to meet pretty Italian girl Nina (played by Judy Cannon). They strike up a conversation, go for a little walk -- and all of a sudden Robbie is a possible husband to be? What?
It's all about old Italian traditions, at least according to Nina's wise dad, Vincenzo. The courting process has apparently begun, and all that's left is to get married? Jay Novello is a hoot in this role, who played many offbeat Italian parts in both films and tv. Also look for veteran actress Renata Vanni, as Vincenzo's wife, in many sitcoms herself, such as THAT GIRL.
It takes a father to father talk with Steve and Vincenzo to iron out this international incident.
A terrific episode with an excellent supporting cast.
Judy Cannon was actually born in Illinois, but does a good job with an accent. She was popular in both sitcoms and cop shows in the 60s.
