The title is a variation of the Halloween custom of trick or treating.
On the front door window of the hotel used for the retreat, the logo for Omni Consumer Products from the movie Robocop is found facing inward under the American flag -which, oddly, is also facing inward. The retreat was in response to Jim Dial leaving FYI to protest the network's refusal in running a story which may expose them to unwanted litigation, thus corrupting the ethics and sanctity of broadcast news (at that time)
Corky mentions Elizabeth Taylor acting in The Flintstones (1994). This is actually a subtle reference to the fact that Faith Ford who played Corky was actually offered the role of Wilma Flintstone in the same movie but she had to decline the role she was busy with Murphy Brown and also had a brief role in Rob Reiner's box office and critical flop North (1994). Elizabeth Perkins ended up playing Wilma.
