Largely based around a flurry of UFO sightings that occurred in and around the Florida town of Gulf Breeze during the 1980s.
Despite its unpopularity, the episode presages the postmodernist trend that would become more acceptable during the next decades as The X-Files (1993), Supernatural (2005), Fringe (2008) and similar "unreality" shows. These shows are also indebted to the supernatural/paranormal series Kolchak: The Night Stalker (1974), aired between 1974-1975.
This marks the final appearance of Charlie Barnett as the Noogman. This is also the only appearance of the character since the Trust Fund Pirates (1986).
When asked in an interview years later which were his favorite episodes that he produced during his involvement in the show, Dick Wolf named this episode, saying that he generally liked the episodes that were a bit "out there".
