Maude came home that night and Senator Bob stayed over in the den. Maude sings "I Am Woman" to show she is all right. Mrs N spills coffee on Bob's pants so he puts on Walter's robe. Vivian goes to Walter's pad and finds Arthur there. Vivian explains that Maude thinks Kathy was in bed with Walter. He goes home to clear things up. It doesn't help when he sees Sen Bob in his robe. Walter takes another drink so Maude finally tells Walter she is quitting the race. They watch an interview where Maude speaks of her ambitions and that changes his mind. He tells Maude to run, which sets up the next and final chapter.
