Another Party Disaster
Hitchcoc16 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
With her usual need to ignore the feelings of others (with good intent) Mary decides to have a surprise party for Lou's birthday. He has insisted all along that he wanted to be left alone on his birthday. She couldn't leave it alone, however. He comes to her apartment and guests arrive, but he won't let them in. They are out in the hall, waiting. Lou is a complete creep through the whole thing. He is justified in his feelings, but once the die is cast, he could have been a sport. I've always disliked this episode because the whole thing is a recipe for disaster. I went to a surprise party years ago where the husband and wife got into a big fight and we were asked to leave. That made this episode especially real.

Unlikely plot but has it's moments

Warning: Spoilers
The actual story of this episode is believable to a point, but that point is ignored and exceeded. I have known several jerks and bozos in my day,but I cannot imagine anyone that would behave like 'Mr Grant' did in this episode. For heaven's sake,if a dozen people come over to give you presents and visit you for your birthday, you let them in and be happy about it. Of course Lou Grant is always crabby etc but for some reason this episode rang hollow to me.

Extra funny episode with many laugh out loud moments.

Mary organises a surprise birthday party for Lou even though he doesn't want one.

Gordy, Sue Ann and Ted have some really funny moments.
