- Quotes
Nedda Kordic: Hello, Joe.
Joe Mannix: Hello, Nedda.
Nedda Kordic: It's been a long time.
Joe Mannix: Yeah, let's see, you were getting rid of husband number three.
Nedda Kordic: Ah, Dick, of course. Come on in.
Joe Mannix: Congratulations, Nedda, I mean, on the career. I keep seeing your name in lights.
Nedda Kordic: Yes, Nedda Carroll, Rocky Mountain Songbird. Isn't it all wonderful?
Joe Mannix: Hmm, marrying Tony Kordic didn't do any harm. By the way, how many nightclubs did he buy you?
Nedda Kordic: Now, don't be nasty. As a matter of fact, he does own a few.
Joe Mannix: I'm sure.
Nedda Kordic: I have a feeling that you didn't come to see me.
Joe Mannix: Well, it's, it's about the shooting today.
Tony: A visitor, Nedda? We agreed to spend tonight alone and retire early.
Nedda Kordic: Well, yes, darling, I know we did, but it was such a big surprise. This is Joe Mannix. Come on, I want you to meet him. Joe and I, well, we used to double-date. Joe and his girlfriend, and me and Al.
Tony: Let's not review your past. You're in show business, too, Mr. Mannix?
Nedda Kordic: Well, actually, no, darling. Joe is a private investigator, and I think he hoped to meet you through me. Right, Joe?
Joe Mannix: Something like that.
Tony: Nedda, get Mr. Mannix a drink.
Joe Mannix: Thank you. Scotch on the rocks.
Tony: Twice
Nedda Kordic: Yes, darling, of course.
Joe Mannix: You must be very proud of Nedda.
Tony: Extremely. Exactly why'd you want to see me, Mr. Mannix?
Joe Mannix: Harry Forrest is a very old and good friend of mine. I owe him a lot. I intend to find out who shot Harry.
Tony: I'm afraid I must tell you what I told the police. I haven't the faintest idea who did it.
Tony: Or why?
Joe Mannix: Or why.
Joe Mannix: But he was working for you?
Tony: If you're trying to connect the attempt on his life with the assignment I gave him...
Joe Mannix: Why did you hire him?
Tony: For the same reason you're here- friendship.
Nedda Kordic: Here you are.
[hands Tony and Joe their scotch on the rocks drinks]
Joe Mannix: Thanks. You and Harry?
Tony: We grew up in the same neighborhood. Very rough. We went our different ways. Lately, one of my corporations- the Kordic Olive Oil Company- had a problem, a matter of short inventory. I needed someone to check out personnel, so I got in touch with Harry. It was a simple job.
Joe Mannix: Did he uncover anything?
Tony: Nothing. Poor Harry; it's sad. I'll pay all the hospital bills.
Just before his top cop days on CHIPS, Erik Estrada (as Tropic) plays a sharp looking hitman who complicates Joe's job in trying to piece together the murder of his colleague. Of course, the proverbial question is what did this guy get himself into? Wait and see.
There's a mob meeting and a shootout. Hang tight.
An A-plus for a top cast, lead by incomparable Madlyn Rhue (as Nedda). Not too long after this episode she was diagnosed with MS and spent the rest of her years in a wheelchair, still determined to turn in a grade A performance. Look for Staffard Rapp (Commissioner O'Hara on BATMAN). He passed soon after this episode.
Special guest is Harriet MacGibbon (playing Addie) famous as Mrs. Drysdale ( BEVERLY HILLBILLIES), a veteran actress and you can tell she is having fun. Peter Brocco portrays "Don" Vincente, definite GODFATHER material.
Note: Joe's sleek blue Camaro is sandwiched between two trucks (and it really is) and comes out lookin' pretty darn good. Say what? There had to be duplicate cars, just like Cannon's indestructible Lincoln. I will still keep this at 10 Stars.
For all us amateur interior decorators... check out Madelyn Rhue's 70s Hollywood apartment. What a life! The set decorators must have had an unlimited budget.
