Chrissy Gets Cross!
ShadeGrenade5 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Chrissy is dating a thirty-year old man by the name of Ian Cross ( Norman Eshley ). Robin is naturally jealous, and wants to put a stop to the relationship. Cross is due to go to Bournemouth on business, and wants to take Chrissy along as his secretary.

On hearing from Mrs.Roper that he is married, Robin informs Chrissy. Furious, she humiliates Ian in a restaurant by spilling drinks over him. When she confronts him with the truth, he claims to be divorced, so the relationship is back on.

Robin drives Chrissy ( in the Ropers' car ) to Cross' home. They are greeted by his pregnant wife. He has lied to her. They are not divorced after all. So how will Chrissy get her own back this time?

The first appearance of Norman Eshley in the show. He would reappear in the sixth season as Robin's brother 'Norman' ( and played 'Jeffrey Fourmile' in the spin-off 'George & Mildred' ). Sporting long hair and a 'Jason King' moustache, 'Cross' is a thoroughly unlikeable character, even before the revelation about his marriage. Having a cup of tea poured over his head is too good for him.

Funniest moment - Roper trying to sell his car to Robin. "A lot of people are interested in it!", he says, to which Mildred replies: "Including the police!". It turns out George has not renewed his tax disc for two years, sticking a Guinness label on the windscreen. He claims the car has only had two previous owners: "Me and The Easy Ride School Of Motoring!".

In Praise of Older Men

Shocking to think that being 30 was considered to be old back in the 1970s.

While Robin and Jo play Scrabble. Chrissy is getting ready to go out with Ian Cross.

Robin is not happy and perturbed when Mildred tells him that she believes that Ian is married.

Meanwhile Ian wants to take Chrissy out to Bournemouth where he has a bit of business to do.

There is a lot of shenanigans at a restaurants where Chrissy drops some drinks on Ian. Later Robin persuades Chrissy to drop by Ian's house while driving George's old jalopy.

Norman Eshley plays the smarmy and duplicitous Ian Cross. He would be better known appearing in the spin off show George and Mildred.
