And So It Ends...

Warning: Spoilers
The finale of 'M7' is... okay. Kay Lenz does a good job as the 'Fatal Attraction'-type stalker, even if it's obvious to anyone who is familiar with American TV (spoiler for all you Eskimos out there who don't have TVs but are reading this!) that she's a psycho. That and we know Chris ain't going to get a happy ending.

It's another episode by Richard Kletter, who doesn't seem to have done much writing except for relatively "small" TV movies. He also wrote "Wagon Train Pt. 2", which like "Serpents" kinda of fell apart compared to part 1. Read my review of the two parts, elsewhere.

Granted, we do get some character development. I liked the Buck/Hilt romance, and how Buck came around to Hilda despite his initial fat-shaming. Debra Christofferson (one of those "Hey, It's That Gal1" HITG actresses) does good, here.

Nathan's bit with the (fake) doctor--who never even gets an onscreen name--is good even though it's a bit of a throwaway. J. D. Having a nemesis and facing his first real test as a gunman seems a bit late in the series. Shouldn't he have had to face such a moment before?

Josiah wrestling with golf is cute, although it doesn't go anywhere. And Ezra gets a "better late than never" bit of development when he seems more offended that the broach that saved his life, than his being shot in the first place! It would have been better if we hadn't had practically the same subplot in the previous "Serpents".

Vin is mostly Exposition Guy, although I do like how the plot subtlety shows how they're both trying to do the best for Chris. Michael Biehn gets to stretch his acting muscles (and has a relatively lot of shirtless scenes, for the ladies). But the whole "Chris has lost his family and is looking for the killer" subplot, like Vin's "wanted for murder in Texas" subplot, has been stretched out a bit too far with not enough reminders, to have much impact here.

So come for the Seven's subplots, don't stay for the 'Fatal Attraction' plot. As the series swansong, "Obsession" does give Chris some closure. But everything is left open at the end, and Jeremy Rutherford as the main bad guy sort of, doesn't get to make much of an impression. But don't expect everything to get wrapped up with a neat bow. 'M7' was a 90s Western, in much the style of 'Silverado'. And it died as it lived.

But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. What do you think?
