The pacific chief of a Seminole tribe remnant driven from Florida, which accepted some escaped slaves during the Secession War in their village, goes seek armed help after a visit from rogue Confederate colonel Emmett Anderson, who aimed a canon on them to extract the location of a gold mine and demanded a coffer filled within a week, but the mine is empty. His party finds cocky, passing gun artists Chris Larabee prepared to come help for a pittance in gold, which he decides to split over seven daring, able men. He first recruits noble Vin Tanner, who risked life and menial job to rescue a foolish woman standing up to rogues as the sheriff is a walkover. Later incorrigible womanizer Buck Wilmington, (cards) hustler Ezra Standish, giant repentant sinner Josiah Sanchez and escaped slave Nathan Jackson, whom they save from lynching. Initially waved junior would-be gun hero John 'J.D.' Dunne follows the six 'adults' and gets admitted for zeal. They reach the Indian village, prepare elaborate defenses and chase the colonel's party, valiantly helped by all Indians.
