- TriviaLucy's real life daughter Lucie Arnaz makes her professional debut in this episode. She appears as an employee at the malt shop.
- GoofsWhen Lucy sings the Ice Cream flavors for Customer #2 (Jerry Hausner), she sings the wrong melody for a portion of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" but gets back on track again for the rest of the song.
- Quotes
Lucy Carmichael: Chocolate, Strawberry, Rocky road, Coffee, Coconut, Tooty-Fruity,Huckleberry, Toffee, Peppermint, Pistachio, Chocolate Chip, Cinnamon, Burnt Pecan, Tangerine Whip, Cranberry, Fudge Ripple, Lime, Vanilla, Pineapple, Lemon Crunch, and Marshmilla, the flavor of the month is Kumquat.
Chris is excited having been selected to be a drum majorette with the school band - just like her mother had been in high school. Problem is, Chris needs forty dollars to pay for her uniform so she and her friend Cynthia (played by Lucie Arnaz) get jobs at the local ice cream parlor. All goes well until their boss makes them work on the day of the big parade - so Lucy and Viv take their place.
This episode is more cute than funny, though it has some very memorable moments. When Lucy, Viv and the boys are at the ice cream shop, Lucy's remarks to the fat lady who's dining there are hysterical. Lucy brags "My daughter made that!" in reference to the woman's dessert. Then later, to the same woman "Enjoy, ENJOY!". It's fun watching Lucy be the Proud Mama to Chris, and when she watches in amazement as Cynthia expertly catches the sodas that come sliding across the counter, I wonder if Ball was secretly praying little Lucie didn't screw up.
Another highlight is when Lucy first sees Chris' new unform and is outraged, calling it "Scandalous" - until Viv pulls out Lucy's old costume, which was even SKIMPIER! Lucy then gives an elaborate baton demonstration in the middle of the episode. Surprisingly, this does NOT end with a broken window. Apparently, Jimmy Garrett's mother coached both Lucy and Candy Moore in twirling.
When Lucy and Viv work their shift at the parlor, they try to impress the boss Mr. Wilbur by singing all the flavors to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. (Ball and Vance look like they are reading cue cards while doing this). Later, in an amusing bit, it becomes evident the only way Lucy can remember the menu is by singing it. When Mr. Wilbur leaves the gals in charge, Lucy's attempts at grandstanding as a soda jerk quickly cause chaos.
Honestly, after seeing this again, I can't understand why I thought so highly of it - maybe because it was the first episode I saw when we first got Nick @ Nite. It's a fun one but not the season's best.
