Wally Cleaver: Oh you mean Coach Grover? Yeah he's been there a long time. I remember he came with the new swings.
Ward Cleaver: Well uh what sort of a fellow is he?
Wally Cleaver: Well he's sort of a tall guy with a whistle around his neck.

THE FATAL "D" IN GYM CLASS.
Another George Tibbles gem, who wrote many great comedy episodes. And I agree with the last reviewer; Beave displays another side of his personality, becoming the class comedian --but at the wrong place and at the wrong time.
It's all about getting a Disasterous "D" in gym class, and that's pretty bad, although his other grades are very good. Best scene has Beave practicing somersaults --until he gets it right. Ward, again showing what a terrific dad he is, even helps him do some tumbles on the front lawn.
The next day he proudly shows off his skill, only to have the coach switch now to baseball --and Beave has to start from scratch. Not fair! An episode all us kids could relate to, if not trying to keep up with a sibling who is a bit more skilled. Just like that, Wally comes home with an athletic letter, worth its weight in GOLD.
To make matters worse, Beave does the comedy bit, only to have everything blow up in his face. Judy hits a home run in gym class, and suddenly, Beave's jokes ain't funny no more.
This is a bad time for Beave, you really feel sorry for him. Silly, yet poignant, and everything in between; what made the series an absolute classic.
Watch this one through, and there is a happy ending.
Good support from actor Robert Carson, playing the coach. Carson was a familiar face on tv for years, playing a wide variety of roles, and making a record nine appearances on ALFRED HITCHCOCK'S tv show.
SEASON 2 EPISODE 27. Remastered dvd. Thanks METV for showing these unforgettable episodes.
