This is the only episode in the entire "Law And Order" franchise to mention Sgt. Max Greevey (played by George Dzundza in Season 1 of Law & Order (1990) ) following the character's murder in the Season 2 opener of "Law And Order" in 1991. Captain Cragen references this when he says Greevey was "murdered on the job in '91".
While in the women's bathroom, Detective Benson finds a vial of Librium. Detective Stabler comments that it's a sedative and that the kidnapper might be an alcoholic trying to control "the shakes". Benson replies that she could also have used it to sedate the baby so she wouldn't cry. Librium is the brand name for chlordiazepoxide, a sedative of the benzodiazepine class similar in function to diazepam (Valium), only with a longer duration of action. Benzodiazepines like chlordiazepoxide are used for occasional insomnia, short-term treatment of severe anxiety and the anxiety, insomnia, nausea and tremors (the DT's) caused by alcohol withdrawal syndrome. While any benzodiazepine can be used to treat alcohol withdrawal, chlordiazepoxide is favored because it has a long duration of action, meaning it only has to be taken once or twice per day to treat alcohol withdrawal.
