This episode appears to be based on two separate cases/incidents:
- The Briana Stewart, a.k.a. Treva Thorneberry case. She was a con artist who spent most of her twenties pretending to be a teenager with a multitude of aliases.
- The legal debate of charging adults with statutory rape for having consensual sex with their underage romantic partners.
The quote underneath Marguerite Samson / Fiona Reid's yearbook picture is from Pericles Prince of Tyre by William Shakespeare.
Shangri-La is a fictional place described in the 1933 novel Lost Horizon by British author James Hilton. Hilton describes Shangri-La as a mystical, harmonious valley, gently guided from a lamasery, enclosed in the western end of the Kunlun Mountains. Shangri-La has become synonymous with any earthly paradise, particularly a mythical Himalayan utopia - a permanently happy land, isolated from the world.
