- Lt. Anita Van Buren: Were you born a smart-ass, or did it just come with the job?
- Jack McCoy: I'm a pussycat. You should've met my old man.
- Lt. Anita Van Buren: Lawyer?
- Jack McCoy: Cop.
- Detective Mike Logan: Take your time, Guin.
- Guinivere Sheffield: It was here.
- Detective Lennie Briscoe: Do you remember where he hid it?
- Guinivere Sheffield: Me and James and Zack, we were here. I was scared.
- Detective Lennie Briscoe: Ah, don't be. We won't let anyone hurt you.
- Guinivere Sheffield: Zack's bad.
- Detective Lennie Briscoe: Just try to think back, Guin, when did you see the gun?
- Guinivere Sheffield: After school.
- Detective Lennie Briscoe: You were standing here?
- [Guin points behind her]
- Detective Lennie Briscoe: Ah ha, where was Zack?
- [Guin points to her right where Mike is standing]
- Detective Lennie Briscoe: [to Mike who is looking for evidence in a chimney and trying not to fall off the roof] I think you're getting warm, Mike.
- Detective Mike Logan: Something caught in a pipe here
- [finds a paper packet, opens it, smiles and removes a pistol]
- Detective Mike Logan: Smoking.
- Zack Rowland: You can't keep me here, man.
- Mrs. Rowland: Look, my son said he didn't do anything.
- Captain Dennis Burnett: And I'm sure he won't do it again, right?
- Zack Rowland: Real funny. Eddie Murphy better watch his ass.
- Captain Dennis Burnett: Now why do you wanna go and use language like that in front of your mom?
- Detective Mike Logan: I don't know. It doesn't really prove anything. I mean, could be Mom didn't wash his shirt for week.
- Detective Lennie Briscoe: Or it could be confirmation of Van Buren's story. Think about it for a minute.
- Vendor: Here you are.
- Detective Mike Logan: Put some stuff on there, will you?
- Detective Lennie Briscoe: Van Buren shoots the other kid in the arm or leg, someplace not fatal. It's a through-and-through and it kills James Gordon.
- Vendor: Here's your change.
- Detective Mike Logan: The old magic bullet theory?
- Detective Lennie Briscoe: Hey, it worked for the Warren Commission. If I'm right and this kid got hit, maybe he went to an ER.
- Detective Mike Logan: And if we're lucky, somebody followed procedure and reported it.
- Detective Lennie Briscoe: Yeah.
- Detective Brian Keene: Blue Deuces. One of your more popular social clubs.
- Detective Mike Logan: You know a member named Craig Singleton?
- Detective Brian Keene: You mean Hammerhead. I busted him maybe six times. Favorite song, Cop Killer. Favorite color, green. Favorite pastime, beating 65-year-old widows with a bat to get their welfare checks.
- Detective Lennie Briscoe: But one of the grannies fought back?
- Detective Brian Keene: Somebody did. Found him in a vacant lot, 12 bullets in the back. No suspects, no arrests.
- Detective Mike Logan: He must still have a fan club because somebody copped his ID.
- Detective Brian Keene: Wouldn't surprise me, the kid is a regular hero among the masses.
- Detective Lennie Briscoe: Where do these masses hang out?
- Detective Brian Keene: Try the block 125th and Broadway.
- Ana Valdez: Hospitals reported 12 gunshot wounds between 5:00 p.m. and midnight.
- Detective Lennie Briscoe: Any of them who don't have their driver's license yet?
- Ana Valdez: There's one who's still in diapers.
- Detective Mike Logan: How about teenagers in the West 90s?
- Ana Valdez: Two. There's a Dorothy Jones and a Craig Singleton. Said he was shot in a drive-by. Left the emergency room at Our Lady before our guys got there to take his statement.
- Detective Lennie Briscoe: Five-to-two he's got a sheet.
- Ana Valdez: Save your money, Logan.
- Detective Mike Logan: Craig Singleton AKA Hammerhead. Priors for assault, armed robbery, disorderly conduct. He's a gangbanger with the Blue Deuces in Harlem.
- Ana Valdez: It gets better. Keep reading.
- Detective Mike Logan: Deceased, March 6, 1993.
- Detective Lennie Briscoe: Our boy used an alias.
- Detective Mike Logan: Somebody he knew and respected.
