When Skip is target shooting at tin cans on the fence John Anderson shoots all the cans to show him how it should be done. At no time does anyone go down to the fence and set up any new cans and it is clear that no cans are on the fence. When Jesse Harper is given a revolver the camera view changes to looking from behind tin cans sitting on the fence. Jesse quickly shoots all the mysteriously appearing cans. Before switching the camera angle back to the close up of the men and the boy the mechanism's for launching the cans from the fence are clearly visible on the top of the fence where the cans had previously been.
