Interesting contraposition of facts in this presentation...Sparta, Miss. is supposedly a backwater Southern town - but this retired locksmith recognized a Schlage Everest key bow on the killer's room key - a brand-new, medium-security locking system which hardly was likely to be found used by any 50-year-old motel in the Deep South at the time. Also, it's an anachronism...Schlage had just released its high-security Primus locking system when this show was aired; the Everest medium-security system (meant to fill a marketing gap between basic Schlage locks and the premier Primus system) wasn't marketed until the late 1990s.
