During the Raccoon Lodge meeting, the President (Cliff Hall) tries to say that it shouldn't be too difficult to bring in new applicants, but he stops just before he gets to "applicant", obviously forgetting the word. After a few seconds of his stuttering, trying to remember the word, Jackie Gleason as Ralph Kramden quickly says "applicants" and Hall ad-libs, "Thank you, sir, I couldn't remember the word".
During the Racoon Lodge scene, a blackboard lists the names of several Racoon Brothers who are delinquent in their dues payments. One of the names listed is "Philbin", an inside joke; Jack Philbin is the executive producer of this series. Another name is "Hanley". This is another inside joke, as Eddie Hanley plays one of the Raccoon Lodge members.
John Gibson, who plays a Raccoon Lodge Member, had played Frank McGillicuddy in The Deciding Vote (1955), which aired the week before this episode.
Norton says that the requirements for membership in the lodge are too tough. As an example, he said that the rule that an applicant must have lived in the US for six months means that "Anthony Eden could never become a member". Anthony Eden was a British Conservative politician who served three periods as Foreign Secretary and then as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1955-57.
