While Hercules visits his mother, Iolaus travels alone to his cousin Orestes, who is promoting a peace system for the region's kingdoms. Rival king Xenon pretends to accede but lures Orestes into a festival stag hunt to have him 'accidentally' killed by a master archer. Orestes's widow Niobe, once Ioulaus's lover, convinces him to pose as his near-identical cousin and continue the diplomatic peace initiate. While they do, they become lovers too, but Iolaus doubts if he can remain king or fool everyone for long, and Xenon comes up with another murder plot at mighty, reputedly crazy king Phadrons's court.
