TOTAL ECLIPSE AND TOTAL DEATH!
Robert Douglas, one of the best, directed this adventurous episode. This is terrific, and coupled with some fine performances. Douglas was also an actor, best in villainous roles back in the day.
Kathryn Hays appears in a very early role, playing Jean, who stands accused of murder. The big difference here is that Tracy and Tom are on opposite sides of the table. Now that's a switch.
Anthony Eisley, especially, turns in a very dramatic performance. Watch him.
Of her career, Hays said that playing these type of roles was a blessing. Tv shows at the time were looking for more females than males, so it meant steady work and more exposure. Hays is particularly effective, especially during the final scene.
Popular character actor Whit Bissell plays Dr. Loring, the head of a foundation which hangs in the balance of this murder mystery. Bissell, likewise, is fun to watch, replete with beard and looking mysterious at times. Young Jack Nicholson has a small role as Tony, and also watch for veteran actor Robert Lowery, though a little grayer. Lowery was a staple in the CHARLIE CHAN films.
The ending is a knockout, and during a total eclipse!
Cricket (Connie Stevens) sings DANCING IN THE DARK beautifully. Perhaps one of her best performances. Watch for it.
10 STARS. SEASON 3 remastered Warner Brothers/ABC dvd box set.
