Helen Hayes
Whatever she was in was always made better. It's true in this episode. A pleasure to watch. Particularly in the first scene with Jack Lord b
Too bad she never made a return visit to the show.

The great Helen Hayes!
Helen Hayes played Agatha Christie's Miss Marple a couple of times, and here she does a mite of sleuthing, but then plays a key undercover role later!
Of course, Helen Hayes was James MacArthur's mother (he was adopted) and my wife and I wondered if she'd visited him in Hawaii before and the producers finally said, "Hey, if you're going to be here, you should appear in an episode!"
However she wound up being cast, she gave her normal wonderful performance as Dano's aunt.
We also have Charles Durning, who I always have greatly appreciated, notably on Evening Shade and his role as the Governor of Texas in Best Little *** in Texas. Sadly, his talents are a bit wasted in this role. Just about anyone could have played the crooked Rest Home owner. He did add a few little touches of his own, though.
The crime is also interesting, but it didn't really have to be. Any story would have been a suitable backdrop for Helen Hayes' appearance. However, they did a good job crafting a crime and a plot for her "old lady" role. Her question to McGarrett and his expression in response at the end is worth the price of the episode. :-)
I see some of my fellow fans also think highly of the episode, and rightly so! Helen Hayes!
