David Janssen: Harry Orwell

Quotes

  • [first lines]

Harry Orwell : In the desert people have a hard time living. They need water; they need shade. Otherwise, they die. Mostly people stay away.

  • Letty : Tell me, Valentino, are you married?

Harry Orwell : Well, I was once.

Letty : To a young girl?

Harry Orwell : She was when I married her.

Letty : Have you got anything against mature women?

    Harry Orwell : No.

Letty : Lot of rich widows in this world. You might give that some thought next time.

Harry Orwell : [sees his ride back to town drive away]  Hey! Hey!

    [pauses]

Harry Orwell : Now what am I gonna do?

Letty : Oh, don't worry, he'll be back in a week.

Harry Orwell : Well, what am I gonna do in the meantime?

Letty : Where did I hear that you believe in happy endings?

  • Harry Orwell : I felt good. Good-bye, desert, and it's on my way back to the beach.

  • Harry Orwell : [voiceover]  We gathered in the parlor and everybody looked at everybody else. Some thinking they might get killed next, and one thinking how to do just that.

  • Anne : She told you it's the money, didn't she?

    Harry Orwell : Yeah.

Anne : The old fool. Doesn't she realize I'd have to kill off the entire family before I collected anything?

Harry Orwell : That seems to be what's happening.

  • Letty : Wherefore art thou, Harry O? I brought you a sandwich and a glass of milk.

Harry Orwell : How did you get downstairs?

Letty : Probably while you were in the bathroom. Go ahead, take it. It's liable to be a long night. A man gets hungry; it's woman's job to make sure that he's well fed. That works both ways.

Harry Orwell : I didn't go to the bathroom.

Letty : You ought to see a doctor about that. It's not natural.

  • Letty : You surprised to find out I'm human?

Harry Orwell : Welcome to the club, Letty.

  • Letty : How much do you weigh?

    Harry Orwell : Huh?

    Letty : Stripped.

    Harry Orwell : 180.

    Letty : I bet it's all muscle.

  • Col. Zachary : I'm equally sure she poisoned the dog herself.

Harry Orwell : Colonel, people are very strange about animals. They'll tolerate all sorts of brutal behavior toward human beings, you see it all the time, but my whole life, I've never heard of anyone poisoning his own dog. That's a first.

  • Harry Orwell : It wasn't exactly a maximum security installation, but they had me out there on guard, sleepless, vigilant, tough, experienced, single-minded in my watch.

  • [last lines]

Harry Orwell : Speaking of happy endings, Letty, the night you brought me the sandwich, how did you get downstairs without my seeing you?
