The title of this entry should be "Marshal Goode", because the name Proudfoot is never heard. In the radio version of the series, Chester's full name was Chester Wesley Proudfoot, and in the episode "Marshal Proudfoot" (aired 20 July 1958), Chester's father comes to visit him in Dodge City. For the TV series, Chester's last name was changed to Goode. In the TV episode, Chester's uncle is named Wesley Goode. Why the story was not retitled "Marshall Goode" is anybody's guess. For a similar radio-to-TV episode-title problem, see Groat's Grudge (1960).
Dabbs Greer plays Chester's Uncle Wesley. In many other episodes, from 1956-1968, he played storekeeper Wilbur Jonas. In some episodes, different actors played Jonas.
A similar plot was used six years later in 1965 in "Malachi". In that episode Harry Townes played the part of Malachi, a drunk, who has to sober up when his successful brother Ethan (Edward Andrews) comes to Dodge. Ethan is under the impression that Malachi is the marshal of Dodge City. Doc, Festus and Kitty all play along while Matt is out of town.
