Lute Willis: The marshal's got some funny ideas, Browder. He holds the man who does the hiring just as guilty as the man who does the killing.
Featured review
A show that really stirred little interest
In this episode a man hires Lute Willis to kill Marshal Dillon but when in Dodge his head is turned by a beautiful woman named Fanny Fields. With the new relationship Lute decides to give up killing and concentrate on straighten his life out so that he can marry Fanny. But with the job undone Lute acts as a middle-man and gives the job of killing Dillon to Hank Browder who just happens to be another hired killer. But when Hank tries to kill Matt things go wrong and Matt is unharmed.
It happens that the man who hired Lute confesses about the plan assassination. With this nugget of information Marshal Dillon places Lute in jail pending an investigation into the blotched murder attempt.
Lute is able to contact Hank Browder and asks him to get with Fanny and have her tell the Marshal that he was with her the night of the murder attempt. Lute advises that if he does not help that he will tell Dillon who really tried to kill him that night. With that, Hank agrees to talk with Fanny. But Hank does more than talk when he sees Fanny.
With things going poorly for Lute and the promise to Fanny about not killing anymore- Lute decides to only go 'half-straight'. And in the end has to live with the choice made.
John Kerr who played Lute Willis seemed oddly cast as the villain turned lover. The acting was less than believable nor did his actions cause interest in the program. With the poor acting the show had minor entertainment value.
