Rumors fly fast in Hooterville
FlushingCaps6 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Lisa wants to go to the big Carpenter's Ball, but Oliver has no interest in a night of dancing and carpentry-related contests, such as a nail-driving contest. All he wants to do is watch some TV special on ecology. Given the active social life they led in New York, we can empathize with Lisa's desire for a night out and you'd think Oliver would be willing to go dancing with her.

Ralph is also having trouble getting her fella, Hank Kimball, to go with her. Trying to help Ralph, Lisa gets Hank to agree to take her-telling Oliver about it, of course. Oliver correctly understands she just wants Kimball to go with her, then she'll get him paired up with Ralph at the dance.

But the gossip rumors fly fast and furious as most of the rest of the episode deals with one Hootervillian after another becoming convinced that Lisa and Hank has post-dance plans for a flight to, Acapulco, or Rio de Janeiro, or Paris, depending on who you talk to. Haney leaves the gang at Sam's, telling them he's not going to let the Douglas's marriage go down the drain as long as there might be a few dollars stuck in the pipe.

Haney's solution is to get Oliver to take Ingrid, who he claims is a Norwegian beauty queen, to the dance so his wife will see that two can play that game. (I always thought Ingrid was a Swedish name.)

To quell the rumors, Oliver agrees to take Lisa, but as they are ready to depart, Hank and Ralph show up, with plans for Oliver to be Ralph's date while he goes with Lisa.

The plot is quite simple, but this is silly enough to be a fun episode-a 7.
