According to William Katt, the original concept for this pilot was for NBC to revive the series with himself back in the role of Ralph Hinkley for another season, but due to his steady work on Perry Mason, he declined the offer, thus The Greatest American Heroine concept was created, and ultimately rejected.
Brandon Tartikoff felt that ABC had made a terrible mistake in canceling the series and decided NBC should recreate it with a female protagonist. This pilot was not picked up but was added to the syndication rerun package.
