A long time ago I used to have a driving delivery job in Los Angeles and I would sometimes stop and help people push their dead car out of the way, etc. Some people appreciated it and some were classless jerks, but that's another story. So this episode was right up my street, so to speak.
Get me Gomer Pyle! He's the best man for the job! Well, at least that's what Col. Gray thinks and it's because Gomer has one of the top driver ratings on the base and he also scored a 95 on the vehicle repair test. So Pyle is assigned to go pick up a general at a hotel in downtown Los Angeles, one who is known as "Punctual Pete", and Gomer better not be late! But you know Gomer. His heart is bigger than his brain and it always gets him into trouble. Knowing just that, Sgt. Carter sends him up their 7 hours early just in case.
On the way Gomer stops to help a little old lady (Aunt Harriet on the Batman show) with a dead car and after he pushes her car all the way home he gets lost in Van Nuys. Oops. Then he ends up in Santa Monica. Oops. Then he ends up in Pasadena. Oops. Then he ends up at Disneyland. Oops.
Each time he gets lost he calls Sgt. Carter and Carter has to check the map and give him brand new directions from Gomer's new location. This does not please Sgt. Carter. He's ready to explode. He's ready to go up there and do the job himself, but Gomer talks him out of it.
I won't spoil the ending. This episode is pretty fun and although not one of the very best episodes it's a solid "7" in my book.
