The Audit (#3.10)

Warning: Spoilers
Stan comes over to tell Dorothy that they are in trouble with taxes and may get a really bad fine or even go to jail. When looking through receipts he finds out that the ring he gave her really did cost a lot but also that he got a Corvette in secret. She goes to the pawn shop to make some money but apparently the only thing of value she has is that ring, so she sells it. But Stan buys it back and pays for the taxes by selling his car.

A nice episode. Loved all the hair jokes, especially in the audit office or when Stan asks the girls to "look for his hair".

And there is a sweet moment between Stan and Dorothy at the end. They will never end up together, and we don't even want it, but it is nice to see them as ex's getting along to some point and remember their past.

$5000 is small potatoes to the IRS.

Warning: Spoilers
Something tells me that the IRS policies in the late 1980's didn't make threats that agent Mr. Murray makes, even if Stan makes a fool out of himself while trying to flatter him. Because of bad financial deductions from previous tax returns, Stan tells Dorothy that they are being audited. Everything's fine up until then, but the condescending manner in which Murray treats even the innocent Dorothy is offensive. This leads Dorothy and the girls to work together to get her share of the money, but in a sweet twist, Stan surprises her. Rose, obsessed with Spanish culture because of a class she's taking, and petrifies the pawn shop owner when she gets her verbs mixed up. The episode reflects as to why Stan and Dorothy's marriage failed and a bit of his few qualities that made Dorothy see him in a different angle. Certain shows like this show the somewhat desperation the writers had to come up with 26 episodes each season. It has a few truly funny moments but is not among the classics.

Safe teasing.

Stan arrives with a bombshell for Dorothy, The IRS are looking into their past history, they owe money.

Rose has decided to learn Spanish, Blanche hops along, with the hope of meeting a man.

The usual sharp one liners, and a couple of sweet moments too. The scene at the end between Stan and Dorothy was a gorgeous moment, so sweet. Of course Rose was going to muck her Spanish up, the scene in The Pawn Shop was a funny moment.

You never know what else Stan is going to do to poor Dorothy, everything he appears it sparks trouble.

I've never really fully understood The US tax system, it is so different to ours in The UK, but the result is the same if you try to dodge paying, ending up in The Clink.

A good episode, 7/10.
