This was the first of three times that Estelle Getty was seen without her wrinkled make up and gray wig in the series.
When Mr Ha-Ha begins inviting kids up to the stage to begin the "birthday parade", the first two are named for members of the show's production staff at the time: Bobby Spina (Robert Spina), who was a Production Associate for the entire run of the show, 1985-1992; and Jeannie Taylor, who was credited on the show from 1985-1988. The character Bobby Spina is the boy who shoves a plate of ice cream into Mr Ha-Ha's face, along with the line, "Happy Birthday, Dorothy".
