Gidget (Sally Field) is chairman of the class luau, but doesn't have a date. Continuing from the previous episode, she is wearing Jeff's ring with the understanding of going steady while he's away at Princeton, but able to see other people. She tells everyone how much trust she and Jeff have in one another and that no other guy could interest her. Somehow, she didn't see how this would affect dates until talking it over with her father (Don Porter). They figure her brother-in-law John (Pete Duel) would be perfect since none of the kids know him. The psychology student agrees as a means to do research on teens. Anne reminds Gidget to not mention any of the implicit trust, as it's only for married people like her and John. When Anne sees how attractive John is with his Marlon Brando appearance and how attractive the girls are that going to the dance, she becomes worried.
This episode was directed by "Bewitched" director William Asher. Additionally, it was produced by Bewitched producer Harry Ackerman and "Gidget" was filmed in a set next door to the fantasy sitcom. It's hard not to find similarities in Peter Duel's John and Dick York's Darrin in mannerisms, dialogue, and even appearance and voice. This is the first time Gidget breaks the fourth wall and also the first of her improvised "toodles".
