- Jeffrey gets an invite to the Young Conservatives' Dinner Dance but Ann will be away so she persuades him to take Mildred instead. A jealous George chats up widowed barmaid Beryl, telling her he is single and arranging to meet with her on the night of the dance whilst he is alone in the house. However Mildred feels out of her depth and returns home early,forcing George to tell Beryl the truth. The Ropers go to bed and,whilst Mildred declares that she loves George for all his faults, his response is less assured - he calls her Beryl.—don @ minifie-1
- Tristram (Nicholas Bond-Owen) is keeping a stray cat who eats Jeffrey Fourmile (Norman Eshley)'s caviar. Ann (Sheila Fearn) and Tristram go away to see her mother, so Jeffrey has to go alone to a party. Ann suggests Mildred (Yootha Joyce) to accompany him, which he finally agrees to. The party night, George (Brian Murphy) has a date with bar waitress Beryl (Patsy Rowlands), the only patron or worker at the pub who wants to listen to him and finds him interesting.
Mildred has bought a new sequien red dress, but she forgets to remove the price tag, which the Hon Penelope (Sandra Payne) points her to. Mildred doesn't really fit there, with Jeffrey's friends, so she comes back sooner than expected. In panic, George takes Beryl to the Fourmiles', as he has got a key in order to feed the cat while the rightful owner doesn't appear. He has go move back and forth between both home, until he must admit to Beryl that he isn't a widower, as he had told her. They say goodbye with a shy sad kiss.
When Mildred and Geroge are in bed, she starts to say that they have lost their old sparkle, and she admits that they can get to each other's nerves. However, as a conclusion, Mildred says "I love you George".
George replies back "I love you Beryl"
...and this is the end of the series.
