- Narrator: [Act One Opening Narration. Viewers see Richard Kimble, having just disembarked from a ride he had thumbed, start down a country road, suitcase in hand] The road is endless for Richard Kimble. Endless - uncertain.
- Dr. Richard Kimble: Battery OK?
- Lucey Russell: Yeah the darn engine turns over... just won't catch. I've been cussing it out.
- Dr. Richard Kimble: [laughs] Maybe you don't know the right words. Mind if I try?
- Lucey Russell: If you're worried about my reputation, you couldn't make it any worse in this town.
- Dr. Richard Kimble: Hmm. Well, what about mine?
- Lucey Russell: [both laugh] You're safe.
- Lucey Russell: You know something, Joe Walker? You've got a face.
- Dr. Richard Kimble: Well thank you if that's a compliment.
- Lucey Russell: It's a compliment.
- Dr. Richard Kimble: She didn't kill anyone. She didn't even know he was dead. I was with her.
- George Duncan: All right. Suppose you come with me and tell it to the sheriff.
- Dr. Richard Kimble: The sheriff...
- George Duncan: Who else? You're the only alibi she's got.
- Dr. Richard Kimble: Isn't anyone in this town interested in evidence?
- George Duncan: Well, they'd have to be if you were to stay and testify. Well, you are gonna stay.
- [pause]
- George Duncan: Well, now look, it's just a couple of days to you. It could mean her life! Why this town, they'd hang her in a minute and make it a holiday. You wouldn't let them do that, would you?
- Dr. Richard Kimble: Well, I hate to run out like this...
- Lucey Russell: Then stay.
- Dr. Richard Kimble: I uh... can't stay.
- Lucey Russell: Why not?
- [Kimble looks down. Lucey takes his hand]
- Lucey Russell: Joe. Joe, you can tell me.
- Dr. Richard Kimble: [Kimble looks at their linked hands. Then looks at Lucey and shakes his head] Can't tell you, Lucey.
- Lucey Russell: All right, Jake. I'll remember that. Next election.
- Sheriff Mead: Might be kind of hard to vote where you're gonna be.
- Narrator: [Closing Narration. Viewers see Richard Kimble helping a young boy fix his skateboard. The boy leaves as Kimble, suitcase in hand, walks down the highway] Always new people, always new places. Only one thing is constant for Richard Kimble. At the end, there is always the road. Richard Kimble is a Fugitive.
- George Duncan: [Sitting in Overton County Jail] Yeah? Well you take care of yourself. Least until I get back. Don't worry about me.
- Lucey Russell: [Lucey takes George's hand] I will if I want to.
