In one of her last acting roles Irene Dunne guest starred in Frontier Circus as tat
rarity of the 19th century, a female doctor. Dunne plays Dr. Sam (short for Samantha) Applewhite who accepts a position as a doctor with the Thompson-Gentry show as Dr. Sam.
Chill Wills yells foul saying she was hired under false pretenses. But she does stay and has a hard time earning the respect and trust of the circus folks.
The first part of the episode leans to the humorous as Dunne even gets a proposal of marriage from Jay Silverheels an Indian chief. The second half is serious when Dunne faces a medical emergency and wins the trust and love of the circus from Chill Wills and John Derek on down,
Also note the performance of Ellen Corby as Dunne's devoted nurse and companion.
