This first episode of the third season sees Kelsey Grammer shedding his long-standing mullet haircut; a style which he had been sporting since his first appearances on "Cheers" in 1984.
Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) paraphrases George Bernard Shaw as saying, "In this world, there are only two tragedies. One is not getting what one wants and the other is getting it." Kate Costas (Mercedes Ruehl) says this quote is by Oscar Wilde. She is correct. ***EDIT: Both Wilde and Shaw used variations of this quote. While Wilde originated the quote, Frasier's quote was closer to that of Shaw. https://quoteinvestigator.com/2019/08/11/two-tragedies/?amp=1
A number of celebrity "early morning callers" appear in this episode. Tom Hulce (Keith), disagreeing with two previous callers, says that his job is very important, before ending his call to powder jelly donuts. Matthew Broderick plays Mark, a clerk in an all-night convenience store, who does not approve of things he sees his "camera self" doing. Carrie Fisher is Phyllis, who has incurable insomnia. And Teri Garr, as Nancy, calls in proclaiming she's naked and she'd prefer to be the spanker rather than the spankee.
For this season, a new set of musical cues was written for the opening title sequence.
Frasier says that Roz is "lacing up her leather bustier." Two years later, she wears a leather bustier to a Halloween party as "O, from 'The Story of O.'"
