Sister Bertrille and her class are by the docks when they come across salty sea veteran Captain Otis Barnaby (familiar character actor J. Pat O'Malley). He invites them aboard to clean the boat that he bought three weeks ago that he plans to sail to Miami. He forms a bond with the sister and the children in telling sea tales. As he prepares to set sail he installs a radio at the convent to communicate with the children and Sister Bertrille, his only planned contact while at sea. The sister is visited by Conrad Barnaby (Jonathan Daly, "CPO Sharkey"), his statistician son who informs her that his father actually doesn't know anything about the sea and couldn't make the trip. The captain convinces Sister Bertrille to accept him taking the dangerous voyage as he's studied nautical measures and at age 68 this is his last chance to do something prideful. He sails away on the Sister Bertrille but is soon in peril in a unrelenting storm. He contacts the convent after losing his supplies but doesn't want help due to pride. Sister Bertrille flies to the rescue and he thinks she is a figment of his imagination. But Conrad feels enough is enough and wants to bring in the coast guard threatening the captain's dream.
Unlike most of the offerings to date in the first season, this episode keeps one's attention while mixing in heart (perhaps overly sentimental though) with some spots of comedy.
