- GoofsAt the dinner table we see everybody having steak with mashed potatoes. But when Chris starts talking, he and Stewie are having roast chicken. On the next cut there is a steak on Brian's plate. When it is back to Stewie, he is having a steak as well, instead of the roast chicken from the previous shot.

Brian Gets Depth: 8/10
This episode marks one of the rare moments where Family Guy trades cynicism for sincerity, especially with Brian's storyline. His reluctant bond with the bitter and isolated opera singer Pearl unexpectedly develops into one of the show's more poignant emotional arcs. Brian's character gains new layers, proving once again that he's the show's unexpected moral center when the writing allows.
Peter's Feathered Friends: 7/10 Peter growing a beard and accidentally becoming a bird dad is classic Family Guy absurdity. The plot is pure fluff, but it's entertaining and gives Peter a reason to be weirdly nurturing in his own incompetent way. The visual of three birds chirping from his beard never really stops being funny.
Humor Balance: 8/10 The episode juggles its tone surprisingly well. The usual cutaways and slapstick bits are still there (Peter's bird antics provide most of the chaos), but Brian's scenes are more reserved, leaning into drama and character. The writers manage to balance heartfelt storytelling with crude gags in a way that works more often than not.
The Musical Finale: 9/10 The operatic number at the end is beautiful, unexpected, and oddly moving. It's rare that Family Guy delivers something that could be described as "touching," but this one earns it. The animation, the music, and the bittersweet resolution give Brian's storyline real emotional payoff.
Final Thoughts: 8/10 "Brian Wallows and Peter's Swallows" blends lowbrow humor with a surprisingly emotional core, giving Brian one of his strongest episodes to date. Between the heartfelt ending and Peter's ridiculous beard subplot, it's a standout in season 3 with both brains and birds.
