- Robert gives Ray and Debra an IQ test as part of his assignment for his criminal psychology class, and the results incite a competition between them.
- Robert tells Ray and Debra that he has to perform some IQ tests for a class he's taking for the police department. Robert asks them if they'll help him out by taking the test. Ray refuses, but Debra gives in and says they'll do it. After taking the tests, Robert announces that Debra scored higher than Ray, that she is the smarter one. This causes Ray to get depressed, but after a day, he hams it up to get Debra to do things for him. Robert later tells them that he may have "jumbled" the scores. He says Ray actually scored higher. Ray and Debra inevitably start fighting over it. Toward the end of the show, Robert confesses that the real test he performed for his class was the reactions between the two people when they found out which one was much smarter. Then Frank and Marie walk into the scene. Marie is upset because Frank ended up scoring higher than her on the tests. Robert exits and says that the test on Frank and Marie was considered extra credit for the class.
- Ray is not able to sort out the bills of the house. He finds it very complicated and wants Debra to do all of it.
Robert wants Ray and Debra to take an IQ test as part of a police assignment. Robert has to learn to give an IQ test as part of his assignments in criminal psychology to make Lieutenant. Frank refuses to get tested since the test only measures book smarts and not street smarts.
Debra is relaxed about the test, but Ray is very nervous and can't do many things right during the test like putting the blocks together. Ray gets confused as the drawing is two dimensional, while the blocks are three dimensional. He had 10 seconds total to complete the task he fails miserably. Robert says he will treat Ray and Debra the same. There cannot be any chit chat or talking. Debra came out of test very relaxed and calm, while Ray came out all sweaty and worried. Debra says that she couldn't do the blocks either as Robert didn't give her enough time to put them together.
Ray becomes neurotic when he discovers Debra is smarter than he is. Robert says Ray scored a 100 and Debra 150, which is one standard deviation ahead and means that Debra is in a different category of smartness compared to Ray. Robert says that Ray's score is just about average. Marie blames Ray's low scores on Frank's genes. Debra tries to console Ray that there is more than 1 kind of intelligence. Debra goes out of her way to make Ray more comfortable. Ray is initially sad but gets comfortable when he realizes that Debra is doing everything for him, including all the hard work in bed. Debra even does all the paperwork on their insurance stuff. Ray knows that Debra is feeling guilty about scoring higher on the test, and even tells his friends to take it. It doesn't take long for Debra to see right through Ray's attempts to make her feel guilty and all his privileges are taken away just like that.
But Ray and Debra's moods change when they discover that Ray was the one who scored the highest. Debra can't believe that Ray is smarter than her. She proves it by making Ray realize that he doesn't even remember how Debra looked the day they both met. Ray says that she was blonde and then realizes he was talking about another woman. Debra says that deep down Ray has to know that he is dumber than Debra. But Ray insists that numbers don't lie.
Later Robert reveals that he was just playing with their self-image for a class of his. His real test was to observe how a suspect would act if you messed if their self-image. He made up the scores and then switched them around to see if that turned them against each other. Robert cannot believe that it worked. Frank and Marie took the test and Frank scored higher.
Note: When Ray describes Debra when he first met her, he says it was raining and she has lighter, curly and short hair. She says, "No." Actually, she has curls in her hair when they first met, in the episode "How They Met"
