In the original pilot movie, Dr. Quinn has a tooth pulled by the barber (portrayed by a different actor). She did not get chloroform. She just had the barber pull a tooth. How does she know if Jake, the barber, will use the medication.
Mary Ann's stockings are falling down when she is crossing the creek, Brian sees the red marks on her legs. During the late 1800's, girls and women used ribbons to tie around the top of their stockings to keep them up. Obviously, her care giver did not care enough to give her ribbons.
Dr. Quinn had a healthy tooth pulled by the first Jake with a large set of pliers. The comment in the school is an inside joke.
