ABC originally broadcast this episode in black and white.
Theme song:
"Swamp Fox, Swamp Fox, tail on his hat.
Nobody knows where the Swamp Fox at.
Swamp Fox, Swamp Fox, hiding in the glen,
He runs away to fight again."
The "Swamp Fox" series was originally inspired by Eric Lucas' best selling novel "The Swamp Fox Brigade", which re-introduced Americans to the revolutionary war hero, Francis Marion, known as "The Swamp Fox" who, with his brigade of soldiers, contributed greatly to the defeat of the British, by inventing and instigating "guerrilla warfare". However, during the development of the series, Disney was pressured by the psychotic monsters of HUAC who were spewing their poisonous McCarthyism on the country not employ Mr. Lucas, because of their false accusations of his "loyalties" to the country. Quite ironic, since Mr Lucas' had just won several awards for his extremely patriotic book! Disney continued with the project, but brought in other writers, and did not give credit to Mr. Lucas, who anonymously did, however, continue to contribute technical suggestions and story ideas to the studio.
Leslie Nielsen, who stars as Colonel Francis Marion, is Canadian. Many British loyalists from the American war of independence would flee northward to what would become Canada.
