Sally Rogers (Rose Marie) comments that Alan intends to get Leonard Bershad to be the executive producer of the television series he intends to make from Rob's book. This is an inside joke referring to the real-life executive producer of "The Dick Van Dyke Show," Sheldon Leonard, whose real name was Sheldon Leonard Bershad.
John Rich had been the main director for "The Dick Van Dyke Show" at its beginning, having directed 40 episodes through Seasons 1, 2, and 3 (through Episode 3.4), winning an Emmy in the process. After he left the show, Jerry Paris, who also played the Petrie's next door neighbor Jerry Helper, took over as the main director, helming 84 more shows. For this series finale, John Rich returned for one more shot: he and Jerry Paris co-directed this episode.
This episode contains the only instance of Rob Petrie falling over the ottoman during an episode narrative, a stunt viewers saw in the opening credits of many of the episodes.
Last show of the series.
