A dark episode...Diagnosis Murder at its best

Warning: Spoilers
I think Diagnosis Murder is a product of the Clinton Administration, whereas Murder, She Wrote is progeny of Reagan-Bush definitely. Murder, She Wrote had a last gasp for survival by trying to await the outcome of the 1996 presidential election, but when it became clear Clinton would beat GOP candidate Dole, it was lights out for Jessica. No one-term Bill Clinton Presidency thankfully, or else Murder She Wrote would be in its 30th season or so by now.

Anyway, here Mark is blackmailed to commit murder, and it's frustrating seeing the difficulty he and Steve face in capturing the killer. It's not until the final moment that we realize who the intended victim was.

In some ways Diagnosis Murder almost becomes a quasi-Silk Stalkings.

HItchcock plot that is not well thought out.

Warning: Spoilers
The plot for Strangers on the Train is copied---Criss-Cross of murders. The issue is that Dr. Sloane is suspected of murder. However, the writing isn't believable because with all of the involvement that Steve has in this case from the start, there is enough evidence to have cleared Dr. Sloane from being a suspect. They could have easily recorded every conversation that Sloane had with the murderer with a handheld Sony Walkman (which they had of course in those days). They could have also involved the ambitious lieutenant on some of the stakeouts.
