Malibu Fire
coltras3527 May 2022
An environmental campaigner is suspected of starting a bush fire to prevent developers building an estate in the Malibu Hills. Of course, there's some fine twist and turns, and the culprit came as a bit of a surprise. It's decent addition to the series with a reporter contributing significantly in preventing Dr Sloan from getting cooked. She lends her helicopter to Charlie in a trade to get an interview with Whitney Houston. She thinks Amanda is Whitney Houston. But later she thinks Charlie is Michael J. Fox; of course, Charlie laps this up and gives a good impression of Michael. TV western legend Robert Fuller also stars.

Emergency! fans unite! Also Charlie Schlatter's Michael J. Fox impersonation was outstanding!

Warning: Spoilers
In this episode, Malibu Fire, Emergency! leads Randolph Mantooth (as the mayor) and Robert Fuller (as Chris Newman) appear. The hospital prepares for the Malibu fires, along with Steve who is on the fire fighting team. I think footage of the 1997 Californian wildfires may have been used in this episode. Jessie wonders aloud why residents would live in a fire-prone area. Anyway, Dr Sloan and Jessie set up a makeshift hospital (sort of a M*A*S*H unit) in the emergency area.

At the end of the episode Charlie Schlatter's Jesse does an outstanding Michael J. Fox impersonation!

Season 5 really abounds with reunion or special casting type episodes: Must Kill TV (ep 9), Discards (ep 10), Drill for Death (ep 15 - featuring some of the M*A*S*H cast, along with some of the cast of MASH, and one member of the cast of Trapper John M.D.) and Food Fight (ep 23).

If Diagnosis Murder was really bold, they could have had a special episode featuring Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone, in an episode where Steve Sloan wakes up to find a bloodied ice pick beneath his bed after a hot one night stand. Michael and Sharon could have played up their Basic Instinct roles.
