Three Blind Mice: Part 1
A beat cop picks up young Paul Heath and he has documentation with him that suggests that he is involved in the numbers racket.
During questioning Heath is cocky. His sister Lucy is concerned about him, Lucy's husband gets a hot shot lawyer for him. His name is Arthur Serokin and cops don't like him.
Captain Matt Holbrook is interested in Fred Forest, Heath's brother in law. Fred run's a garden nursery, is wealthy and Holbrook is convinced that Fred is knee deep in the numbers racket.
When Heath disappears, Lucy is convinced that her husband is somehow responsible.
There is almost a 'Perry Mason' feel to this. Holbrook and the prosecution are wrong footed by the wily Serokin.
Usually in The Detectives, the cop catches the baddies. Here it is about convicting them.
