an pretty cool balancing act.

Warning: Spoilers
I don't know anything about Degrassi but I can see why it's been running for so long. Apart from that I love Kevin Smith's work. I don't mean it in a sense that I enjoy all of his work all of the time. But let's get real, I don't like myself and my own work all of the time. So whenever a movie contains some really funny or good scenes I'm happy. An I think this double episode contains a lot of good ideas and some very funny scenes. Because the View Askew universe is embedded within the Degrassi universe Smith uses every opportunity to play around with what is rooted in what universe. The day to day-one (where he's Kevin Smith the writer/director), the Degrassi universe (where he is also Kevin Smith but not married and the director of a Silent Bob movie) or the View Askew universe (where he is Silent Bob in some typical scenes). All three cross over. And to weave all of this into the Degrassi story lines is a pretty amazing balancing act I would say. His wife in real life, Jennifer Schwalbach, has a funny cameo as The Blonde. There's a hilarious scene where he's hit on by a very drunk Caitlin Ryan (who appeared on Degrassi Junior High) that later helps the Degrassi story move ahead. The Alanis Morisette cameo is awesome. Well you'll have watch both episodes (and maybe the previous one to see the setup) yourself but if you are willing to see the whole structure and dig the play between those universes it's a very satisfying watch.

Very Disappointing...

I happen to be a big Kevin smith fan. And I love Jay and Silent Bob. When I bought the Jay and Silent Bob do Degrassi, I thought that the characters Jay and silent bob were going to go to school and hit on all the high school girls and make all the other male kids look stupid by some some very funny witty stuff. I had high hopes for this DVD. But when I got home and watched this, I was so bummed to find out that it was only Kevin Smith making a jay a silent bob film in Canada. Don't get me wrong, I am a big fan of his work. But when you see a DVD cover with Jay and Silent Bob With a bunch of high school kids, you expect to see the actual characters messing up these kid's minds and tappin some ass...

I don't know why this happened, I hope someone lost a bet.

I am a fan of Kevin Smith, and I want to protect his fans from stumbling across this most unfortunate accident. It is not a Kevin Smith movie. It is an episode of Degrassi (obviously), and almost mock-umentary about Kevin Smith shooting "Jay and Silent Bob Do Degrassi" which is the whored out name dubbed to these episodes of Degrassi. I watched both episodes hoping and praying that it must have a moment of redemption, and it never did. I remember Mewes and Smith did say a few funny things. Mewes and Morissette did a good job, but they're in it for only a couple of minutes total. Realistically I would say the attempts at comedy would be less than 2%. Which to put into perspective, is a good percentage for Fat in Milk, disgusting the other way around.

This was horrific to me by the standard that "An Evening with Kevin Smith"- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0346952/ is one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my entire life. If you are a fan of Smith avoid this Degrassi mess, if you're a fan of Degrassi, it might be worth the mess. And although it's hard to believe, I think Kevin Smith would be one of the first to agree with me. That's why I said I hope someone lost a bet and that's why this was made.

-I'm sorry to be the barer of bad news, I'm only trying to help.

(NOTE: I wish this was listed under "Jay and Silent Bob Do Degrassi (Unrated) (2004)" Which is how it get's accidentally purchased at unscrupulous bargin bins and used DVD boxes everywhere.)
