Here comes the ride...
This is why Chris Bruno is so perfect for Walt. He plays a great tough sheriff, but switches into soap opera husband mode very easily, falling back on his previous experience acting on Another World and All My Children. Here, Walt, Sara, and Johnny all have a great predicament to have fun with. I like how nobody dies ruthlessly or at all in this episode, as the part of my imagination that I suspend to enjoy entertainment programming has been sustaining a lot of trauma from all the sick crimes that take place in TDZ and this is a welcome break. A thing that always bothered me a bit about this series, though, is that some episodes are shows in itself and some follow the storyline arc, which is fine until you bring a character such as Gene Purdy, last seen with major dilemmas to work out, into this episode without explaining why there is not as much tension between him and Johnny as there was before, and he isn't going through any Greg Stillson issues at all just because Greg isn't being discussed. I guess we just have to deal with the fact that some episodes, the first and last few in a season, are storyline episodes and the middle stuff is basically filler with a few droplets of storyline thrown in, barely enough to keep our memories about what happened and what we should care about after, just not to care now for some reason. Regardless, great, enjoyable, and touching episode, that plays the "what if" card incredibly well.
