This episode is an homage to the movie Risky Business (1983). In Risky Business, a teenage boy crashes his dad's car during a joyride taken to impress a prostitute. In order to raise money to fix the car, he hosts a party where teenage boys can party and sleep with friends of the call girl's. Several scenes of this episode are set up very similarly to those in the movie, and some notes of "Old Time Rock & Roll" play when Pacey looks into the mirror wearing dark sunglasses.
During the cheerleading tryouts at 15:35, Stacey sings a parody of the Paula Cole song "I Don't Want To Wait". This song was used as the shows opening theme during the shows run on tv. However, after being released onto dvd, only the first two seasons and the two part series finale retain this theme song.
This episode begins the Eve story arc, which is one that the writers later said they regret and wish they'd never added to the show.
Pacey's quote about how "teenage boys will come" to the party "as innocent as children" is a take on Terrance Mann's from Field of Dreams.
