The start of the best and worst storylines on DC
sheepandsharks2 May 2023
Kevin Williamson's departure really shows with this lackluster premiere.

Oh, Eve. Brittany Daniel is smokin' hot and plays the seductress very well, but what the hell was this storyline?! The writers would come to regret it, and they should. The "Risky Business" homage was far too unbelievable as well, even for DC. Williamson understood the importance of a well-done homage -- hell, the man built his entire career on such meta commentary -- but these writers seemed to just pick a movie they like and try to write it into the show. Not a good look.

Katie Holmes is looking more gorgeous than ever, but her humiliating scene of offering herself up to Dawson just makes me cringe. It's so out of character and hard to watch.

The good: Joey and Dawson's dissolution leaves room for more of Dawson and Pacey's friendship, which was sorely missed last season. Jack and Jen's friendship has grown off-camera over the summer, yet it feels very natural for us to jump right into it. They are the best. And OF COURSE, the end of the episode sets up the Pacey-Joey story that will dominate this season and give us the greatest slow burn love story in all of teen tv. Can't wait.

Side note: American Eagle provided the wardrobe this season, which was very cool at the time the show was airing, because the characters were literally dressed exactly the same as my friends and I in school at the time. Adds a nice touch of realism.
