The One With Senior Year...

Warning: Spoilers
I absolutely love this episode. It's such a great Season Premiere, and such a great episode in general. I absolutely love it. And I know I already said that, but it's true, so there's no sense in trying to convince myself otherwise.

In this episode, Joey, and Pacey return home from their Summer of sailing. And they have to deal with Dawson's hurt feelings. In my opinion Dawson in a bit of a baby. Get over it. At first he doesn't want anything to do with either of them, but then Jen convinces him to talk to Joey. I mean, they were best friends. Meanwhile, Pacey's older sister, Gretchen, comes to town, and moves in with Doug.

Best part of this episode: Nothing in particular.

Worst part of this episode: Nothing in particular.

Overall, I give this episode a 10 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Freaking Ridonkulous.

Joey and Pacey are cringe.

Warning: Spoilers
There's no way around it, they ruined season 4. I don't know if it's because of how trite the writing got after season 2, but both characters are obnoxious and vain at that point. I also need to know what Gretchen meant, when she called Joey « sassy ». She used to be, in a way, only now, she's just the cliché small town girl, she always refused to be. And completely let her personality go down the drain. With a slacker boyfriend, everyone knows isn't good enough for her. And will probably get pregnant by the end of the semester... Again, maybe it was done on purpose, to show and foreshadow how doomed their relationship was. But Pacey's outburst at the beach, was abusive boyfriend behavior, and should've been something « sassy Joey » would've never tolerated... For once, Dawson was more in line with his emotions, and didn't just roll over or have a tantrum. I think it was a great idea to have Jen, Jack and Andie be so supportive, and help him cope with Pacey and Joey's betrayal. They showed what true friends they were spending time with him « this » Summer. At least, Andie and Jack did, because I don't understand why Jen was so eager to have him reconcile with Joey. It was so inconsiderate and gossipy of her. I also love Dawson's new passion for photography. His first re-encounter with Gretchen though, not so much. Like it's ok for her to be rude with him, because she didn't recognize him at first? According to his future love letter to her, she's supposed to be this very warm and loving person. Well back then, she clearly wasn't... It's an okay premiere, but on top of being spoiled by Pacey's « I'm pretending to be Dawson » self aware long-winded speech, at the start of the episode. Season 4 would clearly be spoiled by annoying drama, and a writing that isn't trying to be different from other teen dramas, to become repetitive and clumsy with what used to make the show so unique. As far as DVD/streaming music go, the changes don't sound too good. And the « new » closing song, don't capture the mood of the scene anymore.
