Joshua Jackson: Pacey Witter

Quotes

  • Rich Rinaldi : Here, take this pen and write down today's date. Because from this day fourth, you will amount to nothing. You are failure and a loser! You deserve to get what's coming...

Pacey Witter : Stop calling me a loser! Don't you ever call me a loser!

Rich Rinaldi : [taunting]  Oh, what are you gonna do about it... loser? Loser! Loser...

[Pacey punches Rich, and attacks him, but stops seconds later looking disgusted at himself and realizing, way too late, that Rich just provoked Pacey into assaulting him to justify firing him]

Rich Rinaldi : Don't worry, it's over. You're through. You're fired. You're finished. You'll never work in this company, in this town... or in this state again! Why do you look so down? This is what you wanted all along, right? Loser!

[looking down at the floor and ashamed at how he fell right into Rich's ploy, Pacey sorrowly walks out]

  • Pacey Witter : Hey, Rich. Got a minute? I really need to talk to you.

Rich Rinaldi : Not now, Witter. I got a hot date tonight. Howie's setting me up with one of his girls and I'm paying a grand for this one. I intend to get my money's worth.

Pacey Witter : Please, this will only take a few minutes.

Rich Rinaldi : As long as it doesn't involve me holding you while you cry over this Stepavich disaster from today.

Pacey Witter : I promise. No tears.

Rich Rinaldi : [sets down his briefcase]  All right... what's up, kid?

Pacey Witter : I was waiting until everyone left for today because I wanted to ask you if you would... cover for me? Loan me some money?

Rich Rinaldi : [thrown off-guard]  What? You're joking... right?

Pacey Witter : No, I wish I was. Three weeks ago, this friend of mine approached me and asked me to invest $18,000 of his money because he's an aspiring filmmaker. He wanted me to double his money really fast... so I put it all into Stepavich.

Rich Rinaldi : Whoa! That was a stupid move, Pacey.

Pacey Witter : But he wanted to pull out, but I told him to hold on. He's one of my oldest and dearest friends in this world. I cannot let him down like this.

Rich Rinaldi : Oh, it's already been done.

Pacey Witter : That's why I came to you, I wanted to ask you if you could loan me 18 grand so that I could refund his money. Just the $18,000 investment. And I will pay you back the entire amount with whatever interest you want.

Rich Rinaldi : Why are you telling me this? What about you? What happened to your disposable income?

Pacey Witter : I got nothing left. Everything I had was in Stepavich. It's all gone, except for maybe $300 in a small savings account.

Rich Rinaldi : Damn it, Pacey! You shoudn't have done that! I lost over seven grand when Stepavich tanked. But I didn't put my entire life savings into it. You should have dispersed your money in several stock and bonds accounts. Put put a little here, a little there... . spread it around, not concentrate it in one high risk bio-tech stock. What were you thinking?

Pacey Witter : [sheepishly]  I didn't know that.

  • [Pacey has just asked Rich to borrow some money because Pacey lost all his in a foolhardy stock investment]

Rich Rinaldi : Pacey, you are so good at your job that often I forget how young, naive, and stupid you are.

Pacey Witter : Rich, I really don't need the speech from you right now.

Rich Rinaldi : Oh, I think you do. And in response to your request, I'm going to tell you what you should have told your friend in the first place: no!

Pacey Witter : Wait, that's it? I come to you, I embarrass myself, and all you can tell me is just a big, plain "no"?

Rich Rinaldi : Pretty much, yeah.

Pacey Witter : You know Rich, you are so good at your job too that often I forget what an unfeeling prick you are!

Rich Rinaldi : Hey! Watch your tongue. You may be a big captain of business here with your very own office, but I am still your boss. You work for me! Just for that, you're on thin ice, Witter.

  • Pacey Witter : Rich, please. I'm just asking you for this one small favor, just one time. No one will know about this. It will only stay between you and me. After that, I'll never ask your for anything in this lifetime again or the...

Rich Rinaldi : [interrupting]  Read my lips: I... don't... do... favors... Witter!

Pacey Witter : Why not? Because, God fobid, you'd have to drop the Gordon Gekko routine for a minute or two? This will be so easy for you just help me out here!

Rich Rinaldi : Help you out? I gave you this job, Witter! I showed you how things worked around here. I also gave you a chance to escape some bottom-feeding existence from that small, seaside, hick town where you grew up. And every step of the way, you have been a soulful, moralistic, holier-than-thou pain in my ass! So you tell me, why should I help you out?
