- Afton Cooper: You know something, Mr. Farlow? I don't think your son needs protecting. I think you might, though.
- Clayton Farlow: What are you talking about?
- Afton Cooper: Well, it sounds to me like you're the one in love with that lady, not your son.
- Sue Ellen Ewing: Afton said that you were in love with me.
- Clayton Farlow: I do love you. But much differently than anyone else you know.
- Sue Ellen Ewing: [smiling] I knew it. Clayton, you are so special to me. You worry about me. You care for me. You are the father that I never had.
- Cliff Barnes: Katherine, I'm surprised to see you. Come on in.
- Katherine Wentworth: [closes door behind her] I wanted to talk to you.
- Cliff Barnes: Well, it's a little early for lunch, but I can offer you some coffee.
- Katherine Wentworth: [curtly] No.
- Cliff Barnes: What did you have on your mind?
- Katherine Wentworth: Why are you ruining my fathers company?
- Cliff Barnes: [smiles lop-sided] I thought it would be something like that.
- Katherine Wentworth: It wasn't enough that Mama gave you the job when you were down and out.
- Cliff Barnes: You are *so* diplomatic.
- Katherine Wentworth: Now you need autonomy. King Barnes doesn't wanna answer to the corporate board.
- Cliff Barnes: I think I'd watch my words.
- Katherine Wentworth: He wants to wheel and deal like the Ewing brothers. He wants to be a big man just like them and he knows the board wouldn't allow that.
- Cliff Barnes: Now, be careful, Katherine, your jealousy's showing.
- Katherine Wentworth: Look, my father's built this company, damn it! And I'm not gonna see it destroyed because Cliff Barnes happens to be obsessed.
- Cliff Barnes: Obsessed? With what?
- Katherine Wentworth: With J.R. Ewing!
- Cliff Barnes: Oh, no, no, no, I'm not obsessed with J.R. He's just a temporary stumbling block.
- Katherine Wentworth: Well, when you stumble... I don't want my father's company coming down with you.
- Cliff Barnes: You don't stop, do you? You haven't stopped needling me since I took over this office.
- Katherine Wentworth: Yeah, and for some very good reasons.
- Cliff Barnes: You didn't like the way I redecorated, you didn't like the expansion I instituted. You haven't liked one thing that I've done.
- Katherine Wentworth: My father never would've run things like this.
- Cliff Barnes: No. No, he wouldn't have.
- Katherine Wentworth: No! He had class.
- Cliff Barnes: [gives up on this, adding coldly:] Let me share some information with you. Your father's dead, and I'm running this company.
- Katherine Wentworth: [eyes narrow] You disgusting little man..
- Cliff Barnes: [shakes his head] I might be a disgusting little man, but I am president of Wentworth Tool and Die now.
- [adding brusquely]
- Cliff Barnes: And nobody... is gonna stop me from running this company exactly the way I please.
- Katherine Wentworth: I wouldn't be so sure of that if I were you.
- [rushes out]
- Roger Larson: All right, I'll be reasonable. I'm sorry if I offended anybody.
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: I'm not here for an apology. Just stay away from my niece.
- Roger Larson: And if I don't? What will you do? Sick the Ewing family on me?
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: Maybe, but I don't think I'll have to. I can take care of people like you myself.
- Roger Larson: Are you threatening me?
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: Yes, I guess you might say that.
- Roger Larson: I don't like threats.
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: Well, then consider it a promise. And consider this too: I did you a favor coming here myself this time. But if there Is a next time, you *will* deal with my husband.
