Captain Mainwaring holds a Sherry party with cucumber sandwiches, but his plans for a smooth evening are scuppered when his drunken brother Barry arrives in town.
It's a great episode, but then the Christmas specials always were, forty minutes of laughs, niggling, and some touching scenes. It's a great script, with some fantastic lines, it's well made, and of course beautifully acted.
If ever an episode showcased just how utterly brilliant an actor Arthur Lowe was, it's this one, an absolutely incredible and truly different performance as drunkard Barry, it perhaps helps to explain why Mainwaring is the way he is.
Godfrey is very funny, his efforts with the cucumber sandwiches, very funny. 9/10
